Dear Vega ISD Community:
This past week has seen us turn the calendar to the month of November and turn our clocks back an hour for the time change. We are also changing seasons in our school and extracurricular events and there has been lots of excitement throughout the district with this.
Last week our junior high volleyball team finished its season at Sanford-Fritch while our JV and Varsity volleyball teams completed their regular season as well. Congratulations to the Varsity Volleyball team for securing an undefeated district season and winning the school’s first ever Volleyball District Championship. The Varsity Volleyball team followed up this achievement with its first ever Bi-District Playoff win this past Monday night in Dimmitt against Ropes. The Area Playoff game is set for Saturday, November 9th at 2 PM in Denver City against Van Horn. Please see the district’s webpage and Facebook page for pictures and more information. We are very proud of our students and coaches for this accomplishment and wish them well as they continue in the playoffs.
Our junior high football team traveled to Stratford while our JV football team traveled to Bovina last week and they both played hard fought games. The Varsity football team played Stratford last Friday night and are preparing for a winner take all game this Thursday against Bovina for a playoff spot.
The Longhorn Marching Band traveled this past weekend for the Area Marching Contest. They did a great job with their marching performance at Shotwell Stadium in Abilene. We are very proud of the band’s accomplishments this year during their marching season.
This past Monday our FFA students traveled to Frank Phillips College for the Amarillo District Leadership Development Event (LDE). Mr. Newton and Mr. Osborne took 42 students to this event that comprised 10 different teams. Three of our teams advanced to the Area Contest - Chapter Conducting (District Champs), Radio Team (District Runner-Up), and Greenhand Skills (District Runner-Up). We are very proud of our students and sponsors for this accomplishment and wish them well as they continue with their competition. Please see the district’s social media pages for pictures and more information.
So many of our students competed in 4-H this past week and did a great job. We had students compete and place in many events such as Food Challenge, Food Show Participants, Educational Presentation, Livestock Quick Bowl, and Consumer Decision Making. Please see the district’s webpage and Facebook page for pictures and more information.
I was able to experience my very first Sandwich Day last Friday as our 5th and 6th graders celebrated this fun Vega tradition. I can say that firsthand, our students and teachers did an amazing job preparing and serving an excellent sandwich!
At the time of this writing, we don’t know the election results. No matter the outcome of the VATRE election, on behalf of the district, I want to thank you for the community support of our very special school district.
Thank you,
Jerry Adams
