Dear Vega ISD Community:
Snow days create special memories for our students and families. We hope that your family was able to create some of these memories last week. From the multitude of snowmen that were built, to the sledding around town, and the snowball fights that occurred, it sounds like many of these memories were certainly made. On top of that, we are very grateful for the moisture provided by the snow last week. In addition, we are very thankful for our city and county workers and neighbors who worked tirelessly to clear the roads, help those who were stranded, and cleared our parking lots around the school so our students and staff could safely return to school.
Even though there was snow, our students (and their families) continued to stay busy working hard at the 2024 Oldham County Junior Livestock Show. Our Oldham County 4-H members did a great job and your hard work continues to pay off!
Report cards have been sent home for the first semester. We are now underway with the spring semester and halfway through the month of January. Our Ag mechanics students have been working up at the shop getting their projects completed as the Ad Mech competitions will begin at the end of the week in Fort Worth. We wish our students good luck with their competitions.
While many of our basketball games from last week were moved around because of the snow, the boys and girls varsity basketball teams traveled to Stinett last Saturday for a district game against West Texas High School. Both teams played hard and the Lady Horns came away with another district victory. Our junior high boys and girls basketball teams performed a clean sweep of Sanford-Fritch on Monday night and are preparing for the Friona junior high tournament later this week. Our powerlifting team’s first meet of the season was cancelled as well because of the weather, but they continue to practice and prepare for their next meet in Dalhart in a couple of weeks. Our UIL Academic team also continues to practice as well as they are preparing for an invitational meet in a couple of weeks as well.
Thank you,
Jerry Adams
