Longhorn Weekly

Dear Vega ISD Community:

As the Christmas lights continue to pop up all over town, it’s clear that the celebrations and festivities of the Holiday Season are upon us. The decorations around town and throughout our school bring a smile to my face when I see them.

Last week we were able to recognize our elementary and junior high students who competed at the UIL Academic Contest earlier in November. This was the first time in several years that our elementary and junior high students participated in the UIL Academic Contest. Our junior high school team was the District Runner Up Champions and our elementary school team finished fourth in the district competition. We are proud of the hard work our students put into preparing for their academic competitions and look forward to further success next year.

Our basketball teams continue to practice and work at getting better. Over the break the girls basketball team traveled to Shallowater to play the defending 3A State Champions. While the outcome wasn’t what the team wanted, our team was able to experience a high level of competition that will prepare them for district and playoff action. The junior high boys and girls basketball teams hosted Stratford earlier this week while the Varsity and JV boys and girls basketball teams hosted Olton. Everyone is gearing up for the Vega Booster Club Tournament.  I have heard many wonderful comments about the tournament and am excited to see it firsthand!

There are three weeks remaining in the second nine-week grading period (and the fall semester). If you have any questions about your student’s performance or progress in any of their classes, be sure to reach out to your students’ teacher.

Thank you,

Jerry Adams
